Tiger Corporation (President: Yoshisato Kikuchi, Headquarters: Kadoma City, Osaka), a world leader in thermal control technology, will launch a commemorative retro pattern revival series on June 21, 2023 to commemorate our 100th anniversary, which we celebrated on February 3, 2023. Since the launch of Tiger Vacuum Bottles in Japan in 1923, our company has utilized its vacuum insulation and thermal control technologies to manufacture products throughout the Taisho, Showa, Heisei, and Reiwa eras. For the historic occasion of Tiger’s 100th anniversary, we will bring back the popular Showa-era flower and stripe patterns from products we sold in the 1970s and 1980s and apply them to new items to create a series of products that connects Tiger’s history, present, and future.
The series includes a total of eight items: a rice cooker with a retro look, a steamless electric kettle, a VE electric vacuum bottle, and a hot plate, as well as Tiger’s original vacuum insulated products—a stainless water boiler, two types of vacuum insulated bottles, and a vacuum-insulated food jar. For those of you who used these products back in the day, these products will evoke a sense of nostalgia, while younger customers who don’t know what things looked like back then will get to enjoy the fresh look of trendy Showa-era items, which are currently all the rage.
For the next 100 years, we will take on the challenge of manufacturing with sincerity to fulfill our mission of creating new dining standards with ideas that bring warmth and comfort, toward our vision of spreading joyous harmony throughout the world.

Project Concept
In the 1970s and 1980s, Tiger evolved from its original focus on vacuum bottles and thermal flasks to become a comprehensive manufacturer of home appliances such as thermal jars, rice cookers, and electric water boilers.
During this period, floral and stripe patterns were widely used in various product lines and were a hit as designs that matched the aesthetic of the times. Two signature patterns from this era will transcend time and be brought back to life.
The 1970s were the heyday of floral patterns, and Tiger began using floral designs by Tatsuo Sekidome, a leading textile designer, on the body of its pots in 1967. We also adopted floral patterns on our first electric jar, the Electric Jar [炊きたて] EL Model released in 1970. Around 1975, the trend shifted from small floral patterns to large floral patterns such as those featuring poppies. At a time when sales depended on the quality of floral patterns, bright and vivid poppies were very popular, and this lovely red design is typical of the Showa-era retro style that remains etched in the memories of our customers.
Striped patterns appeared in the late 1970s in colors such as orange, green, and red. As the postwar generation born between the mid-1940s and the mid-1950s began to enter their 20s and 30s, a new wave of families began to enjoy a new style of family life, coupled with the growing trend of nuclear families. These generations demanded cooking wares that would turn their kitchens and tables into rich, colorful, and attractive spaces, leading to the popularization of colorful geometric patterns. The orange stripe pattern first appeared in 1976, and in April 1979, a series of seven electrical products that featured the stripe pattern was launched all at once. The color-coordinated design had a fresh look that blended beautifully with the kitchen.
Recently, the Showa retro craze has taken Heisei-born Generation Z by storm. An aesthetic that feels nostalgic for the Showa generation is now attracting the attention of the younger generation because it feels fresh. Given this backdrop, we have revived the series of retro pattern products as 100th anniversary models to be passed on to the future, carrying our company’s DNA.

Striped pattern (Orange Stripe)
As part of the recent retro pattern craze, capsule toys are making a comeback. Many families had a complete set of home appliances with stripes of the same color.

Jar Rice Cooker [炊きたて] JNP-T055
With only one switch button and two lamps (rice cooker/heat retaining), this simple electric 3-go rice cooker is reminiscent of the Showa era in that it’s compact in both function and shape. Based on a model that was sold domestically in the 1970s and 1980s, this product is now sold overseas, mainly in the United States.
Designed to cook white rice exclusively, this device cooks the rice for about 30 minutes (at full capacity) before automatically switching to the keep warm lamp, and after about 15 minutes of steaming, the rice is ready to be served. The compact body is equipped with a cord-reel type power plug for easy storage.

Steamless Electric Kettle PCK-T060
Tiger’s first generation of electric kettles was introduced in September 2008. Since then, we have been focused on manufacturing products that capture the essential qualities of a kettle, which are quick boiling and safety.
The kettle boils a cup of water (approx. 140 mL) quickly in just approx. 45 seconds, which is the time taken after the switch is turned on before it finishes boiling automatically. (*1) In addition, the “steamless” structure prevents steam from being released, the lock function structure (*2) minimizes hot water leakage if the kettle is tipped over, and the handle that you grip when pouring is coated with an antibacterial finish for safety and peace of mind.
*1 The boiling time was tested at rated power consumption for one 140 ml cup of water with water and room temperatures of 23°C. Based on findings on household electric kettles as of April 2023.
*2 Hot water may flow from the spout and cause burns if the main unit is tilted or tipped over, even when the dispense lock button is pressed.

VE Electric Vacuum Bottle PIL-T220
In 1980, the first Tiger electric water boiler was born. Backed by years of expertise in vacuum bottles and the Tiger brand, we sold about 300,000 bottles in the first year. Although electric water boilers featuring floral and striped pattern have been available since that time, this revival series features the energy-saving features of Tiger electric water boilers that have continued to evolve since the Heisei era, such as the VE Vacuum Bottle Structure that provides superior heat retention through the use of a vacuum insulation layer on the side of the container, and the “Energy-Saving Course” that automatically lowers heat retention by five degrees if the water is not used for more than two hours.

Hot Plate [Dining Plate] CRL-T 100
Tiger first introduced its hot plates in 1975, and since then, the products have evolved under the development philosophy of pursuing high functionality and ease of use.
For this revival series, we chose the compact type, which has been growing more popular in recent years due to the increase in nuclear families and single-person households. Designed to be left out in the kitchen or on the dining table, this device adds an element of fun to your daily meals.
By using the 46-mm deep pan, you can also enjoy pan-fried dishes, such as paella and cheese fondue. It’s equipped with a triple-U heating element that prevents uneven heating, allowing you to cook dishes like pancakes perfectly.

Vacuum Insulated Stainless Water Boiler [Push Lever Type] PWO-T120
Tiger’s tabletop water boilers have a long history that begins with the first launch in 1950, and since then, we have been developing new designs in accordance with the changing lifestyles of the times, producing water boilers that serve as interior decor to be placed on dining tables. Today, our tabletop water boilers continue to be cherished as top-of-the-line energy-saving products that can keep drinks hot or cold without using electricity or gas, allowing customers to enjoy hot and cold drinks at a leisurely pace. The revival series model is made of vacuum-insulated stainless steel. Compared with glass vacuum bottles, the stainless-steel pot with a double-walled vacuum structure is compact and eliminates worries about damaging the inner bottle by directly putting ice into it. With a wide opening of about 7.5 cm, large ice cubes can be dropped into it easily, and you can fit your hand all the way in, allowing you to wash it thoroughly. Vacuum Insulated Bottle MMP-T020 (200 mL Size) / MMZ-T035 (350 mL Size)
Our company’s history began in 1923 with the water bottles made by the Torajirushi (Tiger) Vacuum Bottle Company. Over the past century, we have continued to drive the evolution of our bottles in many ways, such as by switching from glass to stainless steel, as well as by reducing the weight and improving ease of cleaning for personal bottles, which have become more common for people to carry around due to increased environmental awareness.
This product features Super Clean Plus on the inside of the bottle to prevent stains and odors from sticking to the bottle. It features a mug-like “rim for smooth drinking” with the upper part curled.

Vacuum Insulated Food Jar MCL-T030 *Only available in the poppy pattern
In 2011, we began selling food jars as a way to maintain the temperature of soup lunches, which have become a staple as an easy, tasty, healthy, and nutritious meal. It features a wide opening with a diameter of about 7 cm and a round bottom that makes it easy to scoop out and eat pieces with a spoon.
The smooth and lustrous Super Clean finish is applied to the inner surface of the cup, preventing stains and odors from sticking. The vacuum-insulated structure maintains the temperature of its contents, keeping your food delicious for long periods of time.
