Contributing to global carbon neutrality with highly insulating, long-lasting, and nonflammable vacuum insulation materials. Tiger to exhibit “stainless-steel-sealed vacuum insulation panel technology”

Tiger Corporation (President: Yoshisato Kikuchi, Headquarters: Kadoma City, Osaka), a world leader in thermal control technology, is working on the development and demonstration of “highly insulating, long-lasting, and nonflammable stainless-steel-sealed vacuum insulation panel technology” with the support of the Osaka Prefectural Government”s “Carbon Neutrality Technology Development and Demonstration Project.” The Carbon Neutrality Technology Development and Demonstration Project aims to encourage companies to take on the challenge of developing and demonstrating cutting-edge technologies that contribute to carbon neutrality by taking advantage of the opportunities presented by Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan (hereinafter referred to as the “Expo”).

Part of the “stainless-steel-sealed vacuum insulation panel technology” developed in this project will be exhibited at the “Future Society Showcase Project/Future Life Expo: Future Life Experience” of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan from October 7 to October 13, 2025.　

In 2023, we celebrated the 100th anniversary of our founding, and the vacuum insulation technology that is our founder”s business is evolving as we take on the challenge of venturing into the space field. We will contribute to global carbon neutrality through stainless-steel-sealed vacuum insulation panels that combine our greatest strengths of vacuum insulation technology and stainless steel processing technology that we have been refining for years.

About “stainless-steel-sealed vacuum insulation panels” for high thermal insulation, long service life, and nonflammability

The stainless-steel-sealed vacuum insulation panels apply vacuum bottle technology and use thin stainless-steel materials, making it possible to maintain nonflammability and high thermal insulation properties over a long period of time, something that was not possible with conventional vacuum insulation materials. Conventional vacuum insulation materials have problems in that the vacuum gradually decreases over time and they are combustible. However, by using stainless-steel materials and vacuum insulation technology from vacuum bottles in panels, we have made it possible to maintain vacuum insulation for a long period of time (more than 30 years*), thereby extending the life of the panels. They are also nonflammable because they are entirely covered with stainless steel.

In recent years, demand for refrigerated and frozen transport is rapidly increasing, and at the same time, an important issue is to reduce CO₂ emissions in the fight against global warming. By installing stainless-steel-sealed vacuum insulation panels in shipping boxes and shipping containers, it is possible to reduce the amount of electricity required for cold storage and keep down CO₂ emissions. To support sustainable logistics, we are considering commercializing the panels in cold chain operations in all areas, including trucks, rail containers, and marine containers. In addition, stainless-steel-sealed vacuum insulation panels can be an environmentally friendly and are a sustainable material for use in construction and building materials as a heat insulator.

At the Expo, we plan to use insulated shipping boxes using these panels for cold storage and for transport inside and outside the Expo site.
