A healthy recipe using plant-based milk.

WHAT IS OAT MILK

Oat milk is a plant milk derived from whole oats. Water is used to extract the plant material, producing a creamy liquid with a consistency very similar to traditional dairy milk. However, oat milk is 100% vegan. Of the various plant milks, oat milk has a more smooth, velvety viscosity than soy milk and almond milk (which tend to be on the watery side).

OAT MILK NUTRITION

One cup of oat milk provides about 20% of your daily values of vitamins A and D – which are similar values to cows milk. But since it is made from whole oats, oat milk is full of plant based protein and fiber. That particular fiber (beta-glucan) has been shown to lower cholesterol levels.

HOW TO MAKE GINGER LEMON OAT MILK

If you like it easy, this oat milk recipe is for you! Simply place your ingredients into your Tiger blender and blend for 90 seconds on level 10. Done and done.

WHAT DOES GINGER LEMON OAT MILK TASTE LIKE

There are bright citrus notes which are tempered by the honey – which is sweet without drifting into cloying territory. But we’d say the real secret weapon here is the fresh ginger which introduces a slow burn without being overtly spicy.

TIPS AND VARIATIONS

  • Make a smoothie. If you’d prefer a thicker consistency, add half a ripe banana and a few ice cubes.
  • Add protein powder. Need a little get-up-and-go after a strenuous workout? Add a serving of your powdered supplement of choice. Recovery never tasted so good!
  • Use a different plant milk. Almond milk, soy milk and hemp milk all work in this easy recipe as well. Or, if you prefer dairy milk, feel free to use that instead.
  • Make it vegan. Simply omit the honey for a drink that is 100% plant based. Use vegan options like monk fruit sweetener or agave syrup instead.
