A CREAMY AND RICH MANGO SHAKE

A proper mango lassi has layers of flavor. There’s the floral, sour sweetness of mango mixed with the creaminess of dairy milk and the tang of yogurt. It’s a drink to behold! We’re using frozen mango here for two reasons. First, it’s frozen at peak ripeness, so the flavors are locked in no matter the season. And second: making smoothies with frozen fruit is a great trick for ensuring it’s full of flavor without having to rely too heavily on a ton of ice for the same cold effect.

HOW TO MAKE A MANGO LASSI SHAKE

Just add all of the ingredients (except the mint garnish) to the jar of your Tiger blender and pulse ten times. Then blend for 2 minutes with the speed dial set to 10. Since the recipe calls for both frozen fruit and ice cubes, this shake will be thick and cold. Enjoy immediately – or pour it into a vacuum insulated travel mug and take it to go. There’s nothing quite like an icy mango shake after a bike ride or a run! And if summer is particularly brutal where you live, pour into popsicle molds and freeze for a portable sweet treat the kids will love.

TIPS AND VARIATIONS

  • Add protein. For a post workout recovery drink, add a scoop or two of your favorite protein powder.
  • Go plant based. While a traditional mango lassi uses dairy, you can always use plant yogurt and almond milk or oat milk instead. And simply sub out the honey for agave nectar.
  • Make a mango lassi cocktail. If you’re over 21 and craving a more adult beverage, add a shot of mango liqueur – or a neutral spirit like vodka or shochu.
  • Use fresh mango. When mangos are truly in season, use fresh instead of frozen. We’d recommend refrigerating them first so they’re nice and cold. If you use fresh mangos, peel them first – and remove the stone (pit) in the center.
  • Add cardamom. If you have it in your spice rack, a pinch of cardamom ups the authenticity of this Indian shake.
