WHAT COFFEE WAS MISSING ALL ALONG: ICE CREAM
We are serious coffee enthusiasts. Whether it’s making iced caramel macchiatos for our co-workers during lunch break or creating the world’s first automated siphon coffee brewing system, we can’t get enough coffee in our lives. For this coffee float, simple coffee, sugar, and ice are used to make a kind of coffee slushie. It’s topped off with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream. The creamy sweetness of the ice cream complements the roasted notes of the strong coffee and vice versa. It’s quickly become our favorite dessert—and we hope it becomes yours as well!
HOW TO MAKE A COFFEE ICE CREAM FLOAT
Simply brew coffee with one of our coffee makers, add sugar and ice cubes into your Tiger blender’s jar, and blend for a minute with the speed dial set to about halfway. Then pour it into a glass. If you’ve ever had an ice cream float, you’ll know exactly what to do with that scoop of vanilla ice cream waiting nearby. This is one of those adult beverages that will make you feel like a kid again.
Pro tip: Avoid a grainy coffee float! Add the granulated sugar to the coffee while it’s still hot (before pouring it over the ice). This will allow the sugar to fully dissolve.
VARIATIONS
- Try using drip or instant coffee instead. While dripped coffee is the best choice, don’t worry if you don’t have a coffee machine at home. We’ve tested this float with both strong drip and instant coffee, and both worked great.
- Experiment with different flavors of ice cream. If you’re running low on vanilla, try mint, butterscotch, or chocolate ice cream.
- Make it vegan. Substitute traditional dairy ice cream with a plant-based variety made from almond or oat milk.
- Choose decaf if it’s late in the day. Simply swap out the high-octane coffee for decaffeinated coffee.
